Guide

Combat in Sword Scape is simple.  Use the Dice Roller link at the top of the page to help you.

STATS

Enemies are given certain stats in parentheses  next to their name.  The order goes like this (HP,attack, defense, speed).

So a Giant Rat (4,2,1,3) would have 4 HP, 2 attack, 1 defense, and 3 speed.

HP = Health.  Anything whose HP reaches 0 is dead.

Attack = Number of dice you roll to attack.

Defense = Number of dice you roll to reduce damage from attack.

Speed = Number of dice you roll in the beginning to determine who goes in what order.

When you begin the game, your stats are (1,1,1,1).

CALCULATING DAMAGE

When it is your turn to attack, you roll dice equal to your Attack stat.

The defender then rolls dice equal to its defense stat.

Subtract the defense roll from the attack roll.  That is the damage you do.

Then, subtract the damage you did from the target's HP.  Keep track of everyone's HP.

TAKING TURNS

Turns are determined by the speed stat.  At the start of combat, roll dice for each combatant equal to their speed.  The combatant with the highest roll goes first, followed by each other combatant in descending numerical order.

When all combatants have used an action during that turn, the turn is over, and the combatant with the highest speed rolled starts again.

ACTIONS

During your turn, you can ATTACK, MOVE, DEFEND, or ESCAPE.  Once any one of these actions have been used by a combatant, their turn is over.

ATTACK - You roll dice equal to your attack against a target.

MOVE - You move away from your targets.  You and the combatants must roll dice equal to your respective speed stats.  Every combatant whose roll is less than your roll cannot attack you on your next turn.  If it is equal to or greater than you roll, they can still attack you on their next turn.

DEFEND - You give up attacking this round and the next round in order to add 1 die roll to your defense against all attacks on your next turn.

ESCAPE - Like MOVE except if your speed roll is higher than all of the enemy combatants, you leave combat unscathed.

BONUSES

Certain weapons, armor, and other items give you bonuses to your stats or skills.  Add them when appropriate.

For example, a Steel Sword with a (2)+2 bonus allows you to add 2 points of damage to the result of the two attack dice you roll.
